Shai Regev, responsible for education in Kibbutz Mishmar Haemek, said that the kindergarten, named Zayit, serves 32 children aged four to six. “It’s a huge miracle,” she said. “If this had happened while the kindergarten was open, the children could have been injured. The fragments pierced the roof and the ceiling – it was a terrifying scene that shows how close the danger is.”
Israel’s emergency medical service, Magen David Adom, did not report any injury from the incident, apart from a man who was injured while rushing to a refuge.
Thursday’s launch marked the second time in 10 days that a Yemen missile was dismissed north of Israel. Interception explosions have been heard as far in the south as the center of Israel.
In response to the missile alert, takeoff and landing from Ben Gerion airport were temporarily interrupted, delaying several international flights, including a flight from Israir from Hungary and a departure to Rhodes.
Israel has so far not responded militarily to the launches of Yemen, apparently at the request of the United States, which began a regional military operation a month and a half ago. Israel had a strike for the last time in Yemen three months ago.
