With the film Thunderbolts now in theaters, Marvel Comics is preparing to crown an incarnation of the franchise and inaugurate a brand new era for this great long -term team. But there is a twist. Just as Marvel surprised MCU fans by Retitling Thunderbolts like “The New Avengers” after his first weekend of releaseThe new Thunderbolts comic strip also undergoes the same change of title. Now, heroes like Carnage, Clea and Wolverine are faced with the challenge of living like the most powerful heroes of the earth. Do they have what it takes?
Perhaps, but it will be a real difficult battle for these characters to become a coherent and functional team of the Avengers. It was the big point to remember from our recent cat with the writer Sam Humphries. Read the rest to find out more about the upheaval of Thunderbolts / New Avengers, how Humphries has selected this Hotley but powerful list, and on the new threat requires such a team of heavy strikers.
Who are the new Avengers?
Given that Marvel Studios is notoriously secret on future projects, we were curious to know how to develop his Humphries of Thunderbolts, Humphries was aware of the change of title. Did he plan a new Avengers comic from the start, or was it a more recent swerve? Fortunately, it turns out that it was not a last minute surprise thrown on his lap, but part of the plan from the start.
“It was part of the very first conversation I had with Alanna (Smith),” Humphries told IGN.
It was exhilarating and exasperating to keep this summit secret for months. Like plan a surprise party, but for thousands of people. I don’t even have a document on my hard drive that says “New Avengers” on it. You never know.
Humphries continues: “At the start, there were logistical details to develop behind the scenes, so I had to be ready to rotate on a penny. But the entire plan was locked up when I started the first issue. You can see it in the programming – the new Avengers and the Killuminati have both Bendis echo. (Mackay) obtained a range of wellness killers in the book of Avengers, and I wanted our book to be distinguished from a bunch of bastards. »»
As for this programming, Humphries reveals that he had a lot of freedom to choose his Thunderbolts / New Avengers. The goal was to choose characters who could represent the various major superhuman corners of the Marvel universe.
“Oh, it was so fun,” said Humphries. “My basic concept was – the Illuminati were seven kings and heroes of seven different corners of the Marvel universe, when doing if we were doing the same with some of the greatest badashes representing mutants, the mystical world, the Spider family, the Gamma family, and so on? I have a huge gratitude for our incredible publisher Alanna Smith who supported the jump. You hear that its Microsoft teams bring into play for mercy.
As Humphries is alluding above, the various new Avengers are not necessarily bastions of morality and superheroic decency. It is a team of hardened killers, monsters and a grumpy underwater monarch. Like the new original Avengers of 2004, this team is brought together by fate and circumstances, and they will not get along immediately.
“I think the expression I used in my argument was” the interpersonal dynamic is booming “,” explains Humphries. “They are not guards of humanity with a level head, they are a bunch of head bastards trying to use their bad pulses for good, with mixed results. They should not be allowed to be in the same room together. The big question is, who hates the most?
Bucky Barnes and the Killuminati
Despite the new series imitating the MCU in terms of change of title, the new list of Avengers is a little different from the MCU version. The only constant here is Bucky Barnes, who remains after the current Thunderbolts team Takes its final bow in Thunderbolts: Doomstrike. He will come across the former winter soldier to rotate this group of great personalities and more important powers in a functional team.
“I have so much love for Jackson (Lanzing) and Collin (Kelly) long and glorious race with Bucky,” explains Humphries. “I am honored and lucky to follow what they have accomplished with the character. And Bucky will need the wisdom and experience of all the crazy things they put it. The world is upside down and someone has to do something, damn it. ”
What threat could possibly require the combined power of Wolverine, Namor, Carnage, Clea and Hulk? Just as the new Avengers are inspired by the classic Illuminati range, their opponents of the series are a direct ramification of the Illuminati. Humphries calls them “Killuminati”.

“Someone tried to do duplicates from the Illuminati, and someone has *** Ed Up”, teasing Humphries. “Now there are seven scenarios denied and distorted that run. Bucky will have big problems to keep his team together. And the same goes for the Killuminati and their” leader “- Iron Apex.”
The new Avengers combines Humphries with the artist Ton Lima, who previously worked on books like New Thunderbolts and West Coast Avengers. Humphries reveals that the art of this series is strongly inspired not by the MCU, but by a certain other franchise of very popular action films.
“Your is a beast,” says Humphries. “He gives the good guys the brutal and sexy air, and the bad guys seem brutal and disgusting. I told him that he needed to watch each quick and furious film immediately ten times without a break. Based on his pages, I think he did it, the madman!”
New Avengers # 1 will be released on June 11, 2025.
