Millions of Americans have an unmatched liver disease

Some 17 million people across the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany and France live with the most aggressive form of fatty liver disease and have no idea, suggests a new study. Steatohepatitis associated with metabolic dysfunction (Mash) is a severe progression of a broader condition now known as steatotic hepatic disease associated with metabolic dysfunction (MASLD), which generally affects those which drink little or no alcohol, according to the Tutor. The disease is closely linked to type 2 diabetes, obesity and conditions affecting the heart and blood vessels. It is estimated that around 5% of the world’s adult population and 4% of the American population have a puree, which leads to liver scars and increases the risk of cirrhosis, kidney disease and liver cancer.

Researchers have found that less than one in five people with puree has a diagnosis, which means that the majority do not know that they have the disease. The study, published in Lancet Regional Health EuropeCalls diagnostic rates to be doubled compared to the 2022 levels to avoid a high increase in health costs and personal suffering. Non -invasive screening methods such as blood tests and MRI examinations are now available, researchers lead researchers to recommend screening for type 2 diabetes, obesity more of risk factors or constantly high liver enzymes.

Experts warn that if identification and treatment do not improve, the health and economic consequences will increase. Calls for increased use of weight loss drugs such as Wegovy and Mounjaro in puree treatment are developing, as these drugs can help limit caloric intake, rapid weight loss and potentially reduce liver scars. The study also notes that diabetes dapagliflozine can help reduce liver fat and fibrosis, highlighting the growing potential of drugs as part of the solution.
