CNN anchor Abby Phillip said during her network’s special coverage of election certification that it’s a big deal that millions of people in this country are willing to believe anything President-elect Donald Trump says , “even if it is a blatant and provable lie.”
Phillip said: “Actually, it’s not surprising that Trump was able to do this, because the very fact that attacks happened in the first place is proof of Trump’s political power. These people were there because of him. You saw in the video we just released, he said, “The elections were stolen from us.” He said this even as people were breaking into the Capitol. Trump never renounced the fundamental lie that was at the heart of January 6, and he still hasn’t to this day.”
She continued: “So I think January 6 is a symptom of a larger problem, which is that there are millions of people in this country who are willing to believe anything Trump says, even s This is a blatant and provable lie. »
Phillip added: “For Congress, I think the members, some of whom are in the House, who will be in the House today, the members who supported Trump, who continue to try to enlighten the country on this that happened that day, who insist that it was mostly peaceful when we saw with our own eyes what happened, these people are still in power. I think the next four years will be heavily influenced by their attempts, both in terms of rhetoric and in terms of official actions, because they want to do a lot of things in Congress to try to codify this idea that January 6th is not was not violent. All their words and actions probably point in this direction, and we must be aware of it and guard against it. Because for the rest of us who live in the real world, we saw what happened on January 6th. We see the accusations, hundreds of people accused of violent offenses. It’s the truth. These are the facts. Even a Congress that might attempt to issue some sort of statement saying that this was a powerful day, it’s not going to change what we all know happened.
