Millionaire Montecito homeowners are sparking fury by BLOCKING the public trail to a popular hot spring with huge boulders after growing resentment toward hikers who park their cars outside their homes.

Furious millionaire homeowners in a luxury California town sparked fury by blocking a beautiful public hiking trail with rocks because hikers were parking in front of their homes.

Montecito residents received angry letters from Santa Barbara County after passive-aggressively placing rocks along roadsides outside their homes.

Homeowners were trying to keep visitors away from the beautiful trail near their homes that leads to hidden hot springs who parked on their street.

On March 18, the county mailed letters to the properties of 11 homeowners living on East Mountain Drive and Riven Rock Road.

The letters demanded that wealthy residents remove the obstacles within 10 days because the roads constitute a “public right of way.”

The homeowners were trying to keep visitors away from the beautiful trail near their homes that leads to hidden hot springs and parking on their street.

Currently, the trailhead can accommodate about eight cars and all other hikers are forced to park elsewhere, causing them to leave their cars outside the mansion owners’ properties.

County officials then demanded that the angry property owners apply for an encroachment permit, which is required for anyone wishing to encroach along or onto a county road.

“We are currently working with residents to permit items that can remain and remove items that must be removed,” Lael Wageneck, a spokesperson for the county public works department, told SFGATE.

Santa Barbara County faced a similar problem in 2022, when four property owners sued the county over its plan to create 62 new parking spaces near the trailhead.

Currently, the trailhead can accommodate about eight cars and all other hikers are forced to park elsewhere, causing them to leave their cars outside the mansion owners’ properties.

Homeowners are furious about visitors parking in front of their homes, despite the fact that most properties are located on huge plots of land with long, winding driveways and plenty of space for their own parking needs.

The median home price in the area is around $7.5 million, and famous residents include Oprah Winfrey as well as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Gwyneth Paltrow, Scooter Braun and Larry David also own luxury real estate in Montecito.
