Miles Russell, the 15-year-old Floridian who became the youngest player in Korn Ferry Tour history to make a cut, shot a 66 on Sunday to tie for 20th at the Lecom Suncoast Classic in Lakewood Ranch, Florida.

And since the top 25 qualify for the next tournament, that means the teenager will play in the Veritex Bank Championship at Texas Rangers Golf Club, starting Thursday.

“It was a great week. It was awesome,” Russell said, as quoted by PGATour.com. “Especially for my first one, you might get some weird looks, like, ‘Who’s the little kid in the booth?’ But, you know, everyone was so nice and so helpful with everything.

“I just try to go with the flow and take it as it comes to me, and I just try to stay cool. I managed to get good shots at the right times.

Russell became the youngest player in the Korn Ferry Tour’s 35-year history when he posted a 5-under 66 on Friday.

Russell opened with a 68 and left little doubt that he would stay within four days. He made two eagles on the front nine, including one on the 282-yard, par-4 fourth hole, then started the back nine with two consecutive birdies.

“When I play well, I think I can compete with some of the top pros, but this week I played well and I think that showed it a little bit,” Russell said. “But a good play is always good and it definitely builds confidence to finish where we’re going to finish today.”

Russell is a high school freshman from Jacksonville Beach, Florida, who has been taking online classes since eighth grade.

The left-hander is already accumulating impressive credentials. He was the American Junior Golf Association Player of the Year in 2023, which includes winning the PGA Junior Championship by seven strokes and becoming the youngest winner of the Junior Players Championship.

Last month, he came close to qualifying for a PGA Tour event, losing in a playoff Monday in a qualifier for the Puerto Rico Open. The Korn Ferry Tour is the premier developmental tour on the PGA Tour.

China’s Guan Tianlang remains the youngest to qualify in a PGA Tour-sanctioned event. He was 14 when he qualified for the 2013 Masters, as the Asia-Pacific amateur champion.
