“My preparation was a lot of dance and very little to eat – which I know that you are not supposed to say, but it is the truth. I drank a lot of broth and danced for 12 hours a day,” recalls Kunis, now 42, who was 27 years old during the shooting.
Kunis said that she and Portman should initially have only three months to prepare to represent professional ballet dancers, but due to budgeting, they had finally six, which worked in their favor.
“We were not supposed to have only three months of preparation before the start of filming, but we lost funding, so it was extended to six months while Darren tried to find money,” she said. “It’s null for Darren, but Nat and I were so happy because we had three additional months to dance.”
Portman sounded, recalling how she acquired a “insight” in the world of ballet.
“One of the most surprising side effects of the physical training was that I ended up spending a year speaking a lot to my trainer, who was a former New York ballet dancer and told me hours of stories that gave so much colors and insight on this world. It is like doing investigation journalism, but I chatted with her by doing folded”.
Meanwhile, Kunis then recalled how she injured very early during the shooting.
“We turned these dance scenes for hours, and I had bruises everywhere in my ribs just by being raised again and again,” she shared. “I also fought my shoulder early in production and I thought I was completely screwed up, but Darren sent me to an acupuncturist and I am somehow very good.”
In Black swan, Kunis played the role of Lily, a newcomer and rival to Nina de Portman, both in competition for the role of the main ballerina in Cygne lake.

“My point of view is that I was trying to be a sly director and to have them argue. Mila and Natalie both realized what I was doing and made fun of me, so it quickly became a joke that we all understood,” said Aronofsky. “They are both very intelligent and were instantly aware of the touch I played.”
“Do you remember it differently?” He asked Kunis and Portman, who remain good friends.

She is so talented and I love her so much and I am happy that she is doing a great job! “”
