Mikel Arteta wants to build an attack around Gabriel Jesus and Arsenal are doing all they can to sign the Manchester City star after losing Pierre Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette

Arsenal are keen to build their attack around Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus, with the Gunners reportedly in the lead to sign him.

Mikel Arteta’s side have been heavily linked with the Brazil international and are keen to get their man through ahead of pre-season.

Jesus appears to be heading to Arsenal this summer

According to Athletic, he is the No.1 target but the stumbling block appears to be the fee as no club-to-club deal has yet been reached for the player.

City are said to have an asking price of £50million which, so far, the Gunners have apparently been unwilling to match.

Arsenal have already seen an initial bid of £35m for Jesus knocked down by last season’s Premier League champions.

Personal conditions would not be an issue, and Jesus is keen to move to North London as he is looking for regular playing time.

Representatives of Jesus are said to have recently traveled to the capital to push through the deal.

Arsenal manager Arteta is a big fan of Jesus

Arsenal have managed to link Eddie Nketiah with a new long-term contact, but Arteta wants to further strengthen his forward line.

The club remain coy to bring in another striker, having lost Pierre Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette to Barcelona and Lyon on free transfers, respectively.

A move to the Emirates for Jesus would undoubtedly boost his chances of a place in Brazil’s World Cup squad, with the tournament kicking off in five months.

Manchester City moved quickly to secure the services of Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund, and also brought in Julian Alvarez from River Plate – suggesting Jesus’ playing time at the Etihad will be limited next season.

Haaland has signed for Manchester City so the Brazilian’s playing time would be limited

Jesus, having netted 13 times in all competitions last campaign, would be a shrewd deal from Arteta.

Reuniting with the Spaniard, who was previously assistant manager to Pep Guardiola, could see the star unleash his attacking skills further and could well write himself into Arsenal folklore.
