Mike Tyson fight with Jake Paul postponed after Tyson health episode – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

Mike Tyson’s fight with Jake Paul was postponed after Tyson, 57, fell ill on a flight last weekend.

Tyson and Paul announced Friday that they would announce a new fight date next week. They were scheduled to meet July 20 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.

Tyson fell ill on a flight from Miami to Los Angeles last Sunday, and his flight was greeted by first responders. Tyson’s camp attributed the episode to an ulcer problem.

“During a follow-up consultation Thursday with medical professionals regarding his recent ulcer flare-up, Mike Tyson was recommended to train minimally to lightly over the next few weeks and then resume a complete workout without any limitations,” the fight said. » declared the promoters in a press release.

Tyson hasn’t fought professionally since June 2005, but he has been training regularly for several years. He fought Roy Jones Jr. in an entertaining exhibition in November 2020.

“My body is in better overall shape than it has been since the 1990s, and I will return to my full training regime soon,” Tyson said in the release. “Jake Paul, it may have bought you some time, but in the end you will still be out of boxing for good. I appreciate everyone’s patience and look forward to delivering an unforgettable performance later this year.

The 57-year-old was recently on a flight from Miami to Los Angeles when he suffered an in-flight medical emergency. His rep spoke to NBC News on Monday and said Mike is “doing great.”

Tickets already purchased for the fight at Dallas Cowboys Stadium will be honored on the new fight date, promoters said.

Paul, 27, is a YouTube star who has forged a successful fighting career primarily by taking on mixed martial artists and journeyman boxers.

“I fully support postponing the event so that Mike Tyson has no excuses on fight night,” Paul said. “My fans know that I only want to face Iron Mike at his best, but let’s make no mistake: When he steps in the ring with me, I’ll be ready to claim my W with a sensational finish.”
