Mike Patrick, the longtime game advertiser for ESPN Sunday evening football,, is dead. He was 80 years old.
Originally from Clarksburg, in Virginia-Western, Patrick managed the NFL Sunday evening match for 18 years, part of a 35-year career at ESPN.
As he called a variety of events, Patrick was best known as the main voice of Sunday evening football Throughout his time on ESPN – from 1987 to 2005. In 2006, Sunday evening football moved to NBC and ESPN acquired the rights to Monday evening football.
He called the very first match of the regular NFL season, with Paul Maguire and Joe Thiesmann.
Patrick’s other tasks included university football, the College World Series and the Final Four Female.
Before ESPN, Patrick included call games for Jacksonville de la WFL Sharks. He managed Washington’s pre-season games from 1975 to 1982.
Patrick was also a second lieutenant of the US Air Force, after graduating from George Washington University.
