Migrants arrested with drugs, loaded gun and cash at Canadian border in Montana

Border Patrol agents from the Le Havre sector arrested a group of migrants during an attempted human smuggling near the Canadian border in Montana. A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of drugs, a handgun and cash.

Border Patrol agents from Sweetgrass Station observed two suspected migrants walking near the border. The two individuals were rapidly approaching what appeared to be a waiting human smuggler’s vehicle, according to information obtained from Border Patrol agents.

Officers conducted an immigration interview and determined that the two pedestrians were migrants without legal permission to be in the United States. Officers then interviewed the two occupants of the vehicle and determined that they were also migrants illegally present in the United States, officials said.

Officers take the four migrants into custody and begin to search the smuggler’s vehicle. During the search, a K-9 alerted to the possible presence of drugs in the vehicle.

During a physical search of the vehicle, officers found what they believed to be narcotics and drug paraphernalia. A field test identified the drugs as methamphetamine, cocaine and freebase cocaine, the report said.

The search also led to the discovery of a loaded Taurus 9mm pistol and three loaded magazines. A stash of more than $12,000 in cash was also found in the possession of one of the migrants. Officers seized the money, gun and drugs.

“The Le Havre Sector’s commitment to border security demonstrates once again that vigilance is required to gain an operational advantage against all threats on the northern border,” said the Acting Deputy Chief Patrol Officer. of the Le Havre sector, Samuel Rodriguez, in a written press release. “Our ability to detect and identify threats is paramount, and boots in the field are critical to that success. I am proud of the work that these officers do on a daily basis.

On May 19, Acting Chief Patrol Officer for the Le Havre sector, Teresa Pedregon, tweeted a report about the arrest of five other migrants who were arrested by officers from Sweetgrass station.
