Microsoft will release its fiscal second quarter results after the closing bell on Tuesday.

Here’s what analysts expect:

  • Earnings: $2.31 per share, adjusted, as expected by analysts, according to Refinitiv.
  • Income: $50.88 billion as expected by analysts, according to Refinitiv.

After two consecutive quarters of revenue growth of more than 20%, analysts expect a slowdown to 18% in the second fiscal quarter. This would bring the company back to the level of its performance over the previous two and a half years.

The most notable deceleration came from the More Personal Computing segment, which includes games and the Windows operating system. Analysts polled by StreetAccount expect growth of 9.5% year-on-year, compared to 14% growth in the previous quarter.

In October, Microsoft chief financial officer Amy Hood warned that the company would face a tough comparison due to the introduction of the Xbox Series X and Series S consoles last year. She said at the time that console sales “will continue to be impacted by supply chain uncertainty.”

Microsoft shares are down 13% year-to-date amid a sell-off in tech stocks as investors brace for higher interest rates.

During the quarter, Microsoft launched Windows 11 as the successor to Windows 10 and introduced the $249 Surface Laptop SE for school use that runs a special version of Windows 11. The company also announced the acquisition of Ally.io, whose software helps businesses stay on top of key targets.

Microsoft announced plans earlier this month to acquire Activision Blizzard, the publisher behind Call of Duty, for $68.7 billion, the biggest deal in the company’s 46-year history.

The guidance will be particularly important as investors seek guidance on how supply chain constraints and inflation factor into future revenue and earnings. Analysts polled by Refinitiv expect Microsoft to forecast revenue of $48.23 billion for the third fiscal quarter, a growth of 15.6%.

Leaders will discuss the results and provide guidance on a webcast that will air on the Microsoft Teams app beginning at 5:30 p.m. ET.
