Michigan brought in JJ McCarthy, Blake Corum and Desmond Howard as surprise special guests at the school’s commencement ceremony Saturday, while guest speaker Brad Meltzer said he “missed” the alumnus of the Wolverines, Tom Brady.

Meltzer is a celebrated children’s author and a Michigan alumnus himself, who spoke to the huge crowd at Michigan Stadium about what a degree from Ann Arbor meant to him.

To end his speech, Meltzer talks about magic and how it is a “gift we give to others”. He also said the “best magicians” always had a trick up their sleeve before making Howard appear first, then McCarthy and Corum.

The three former Wolverines football players received massive ovations from the crowd, with Howard striking his famous Heisman Trophy pose. As a final act, the four in attendance in Ann Arbor unzipped their graduation gowns to show off block-M Michigan tees.

Brady wasn’t mentioned in Meltzer’s speech, but he may be Michigan’s most famous alumnus.

Brady was not in Ann Arbor, but was spotted at the Miami Formula 1 Grand Prix.

Instead, Brady was in attendance at the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix on Saturday, competing in the sprint race and qualifying for the Grand Prix.

‘Hey @TomBrady, we missed you today. Go blue!’ Meltzer said on X. “I love you @DesmondHoward @blake_corum and JJ McCarthy.”

Michigan won its first national championship in January with McCarthy and Corum leading the way. They were selected by the Vikings and Rams, respectively, in last month’s NFL draft.

Howard is the second most recent Wolverine to win the Heisman Trophy, after Charles Woodson.

Brady was on the 1997 national championship roster and was Michigan’s starting quarterback during the 1998 and 1999 seasons.
