Ann Arbor, Michigan – Michigan fans had their first preview of the first -year quarter of the Bryce Underwood on Saturday.
And as you can imagine, it was an unequal beginning.
Underwood, a five-star recruit and player No. 1 of the first year class of this year, made 12 out of 26 for 187 yards and a hit in the 17-0 victory of his blue team in the Wolverines spring match in Michigan Stadium.
A crowd estimated at 30,000 people turned out to watch Underwood while delivering several short and intermediate throws, including consecutive completions of 11 and 15 yards to the second -year receiver Channing Goodwin in the first quarter and a series of passes to the winger tight Junior Jalen Hoffman.
But Underwood, listed at 6 feet 4 inch and 208 pounds, had trouble connecting deeply during most of the day. He sometimes sailed and lost communication with his targets, launching an interception to transfer the defensive back Tevis Metcalf in the second quarter.
These difficulties continued in the second half while Underwood continued to test the depth of the corn team. A long -year -old Jamar Browder first -year shot was broken, while Underwood struck another real recruit, Andrew Marsh, for 13 meters on the sidelines.
Underwood crowned the match with an inverted touch of 88 yards in Hoffman, who found himself wide open on the field.
Underwood, with an inexperienced fortune offensive line in front of him, was credited with having been “dismissed” XX times. He escaped a snap under the center (and recovered) and was on the ground for two partially delay penalties.
With the injured Mikey Keene transfer, Underwood was one of the two -quarters of good health on the Michigan list for Saturday. He took all the pictures for the blue team, who saw the starter of Return Evan Link Shift on the left tackle and Greg Crippen in the center.
Underwood also flashed his legs, breaking a postponement of 17 yards in the fourth quarter which helped move the chains. He was credited with 12,919 versatile yards during his four -year career in Belleville High School, where he was a double state champion before signing with Michigan in December.
Saturday’s spring match marked the conclusion of the spring calendar of the 15 Michigan practices. The Wolverines come out of an 8-5 season in the beginnings of head coach Sherrone Moore, ending with victories on Arch Rival Ohio State and Alabama in the Reliaquest Bowl.
