After experiencing the experience himself, Michael Cohen shared his take on the federal raid on Rudy Giuliani’s home and office this week as part of a Justice Department investigation into the country’s trade relations. former mayor of New York.
Cohen, who like Giuliani served as personal counsel for former President Donald Trump, said in an appearance Thursday on CNN that he warned Giuliani to take Trump as a client.
“Rudy, I told you,” Cohen said. “What I told him is that Donald Trump doesn’t care about anyone or anything, that he will be the next to be thrown under the bus. And that’s exactly what’s going to happen.
Federal agents seized electronic devices during Wednesday’s raids on Giuliani’s properties, a major escalation in the investigation into his relations with Ukraine. It is believed to be linked at least in part to his involvement in the country when Trump was trying to unearth the son of Joe Biden, who had served on the board of a Ukrainian energy company.
“Who knows what Rudy was involved in,” Cohen said. “What we’re going to find out is that there are text messages, there are emails, there are different types of communication applications that the FBI knows how to restore, even if Rudy, who I don’t think is technological , tried to delete or what have you got.
He speculated that investigators would look into conversations between Giuliani and his Ukrainian associates, but could expand their search to other people in Trump’s orbit who may be implicated by Giuliani’s correspondence. Giuliani is known for his technological slippages and the lack of security of his cell phone, having revealed sensitive information to several journalists via end-to-end dials.
“Rudy is an idiot,” Cohen said. “Rudy is behaving in such an erratic way that who knows what’s on these phones or what’s on his computers.”
Cohen said he believes Giuliani will turn on Trump if necessary.
“Do I think Rudy will abandon Donald in the blink of an eye?” Absolutely. He certainly doesn’t want to follow my path until a 36-month sentence for something as harmless as a silent payment to a pornstar … under the leadership and benefit of Donald J. Trump.
Cohen, now one of Trump’s biggest critics, is under house arrest and serving the remaining months of a three-year prison sentence. He pleaded guilty in 2018 to crimes that included lying to Congress during the Russia investigation and campaign finance violations, including paying silent money to pornstar Stormy Daniels.
