Miami Police Sergeant Andrea Smith Lashes Out During Drunk Driving Arrest By Own Department: Video

New footage shows the crazy moment Florida cops pulled over a suspected drunk driver only to learn their colleague was behind the wheel.

Body camera video captured Miami Gardens Police Sgt. Andrea Smith falls asleep and screams that she wasn’t crazy when she was arrested by her own police department for drunk driving and dangerous driving on March 14.

“Are you really serious, Sergeant? Do you see how you drive? a Miami Gardens cop asked Smith incredulously as he recognized her getting out of her car during the traffic stop, according to video obtained by NBC6 South Florida.

Smith, a 10-year veteran of the department, allegedly ran two red lights and was speeding in her white Mercedes before being stopped, the local station reported.

When she exited the vehicle, wearing a dress and heels, she had bloodshot eyes, tears, slurred speech and the odor of alcohol on her breath, according to the police report.

She refused to take a breathalyzer test and was jailed that night, NBC6 reported.

“I’m not crazy. I’m sober,” she shouted at the arresting officer and warned him, “If they can take a sergeant to jail, they can take you to jail »

From the backseat, the police sergeant complained about being treated “like an animal” by her “own people” and shouted that she would “sue that piece of shit to court in Miami Gardens.”

The clip also showed Smith slumped over as she fell asleep.

The cop also bizarrely offered the officer financial advice and bragged about his car reportedly costing “$130,000.”

“Earn your money and get the fk out,” she told the arresting officer, referring to their employer.

Smith has pleaded not guilty to the charges. She was relieved of duty by the Miami Gardens Police Department.

Her attorney, Mark Lefcourt, told NBC6 that the body camera footage supported the sergeant’s claims that she was sober.

“The arrest of Sergeant Andrea Smith is nothing short of a travesty of justice,” Lefcourt said. “Not only do the videos show that she did not have bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, an unsteady gait and/or an inability to engage in intelligent communication, but Sergeant Smith agreed to complete all sobriety exercises.”

He also claimed the department only arrested her in retaliation for “being a whistleblower,” but declined to specify what she blew the whistle on.
