Mexico plans tequila push in Russia – sent – RT Business News

The North American country will negotiate an increase in exports as it seeks to boost trade with Moscow, its ambassador says

Mexico wants to increase its tequila exports to Russia, the country’s ambassador to Russia, Eduardo Villegas Megias, told RTVI news outlet this week.

The diplomat noted that certain blends of his signature alcoholic drink made in Mexico cannot be supplied to Russia due to regulations that limit the concentration of alcohol in drinks.

“Some tequila blends exceed the permitted alcohol concentration and therefore cannot be delivered to Russia. But of course Mexico would like to continue boosting tequila exports to Russia,” he said.

Megaas also said his country wants to import building materials and metals from Russia. “One of the important materials that Russia offers to the world is steel and steel products…and the government is very interested in that,” said the envoy.

He highlighted the traditional demand for Russian fertilizers pointing out that for Mexico it was not a “immediate” trend but a constant necessity.

The Mexican president said earlier he was interested in negotiating “reasonable” prices of fertilizer supplies, the diplomat said, adding that it was one of the country’s economic priorities.
