Mets bats stay ice-cold vs. Giants for first losing streak since 0-5 start

SAN FRANCISCO – The hot bats that were cooled a day earlier in Los Angeles didn’t warm up much Monday in windy Oracle Park.

Pete Alonso’s fifth-inning home run created the thunder and there was a brief rally in the ninth inning, but that was about all the Mets could celebrate in a 5-2 loss to the Giants.

It was the Mets’ second straight loss, marking their first losing streak since their 0-5 start.

They are 2-2 on this West Coast trip.

Keaton Winn was the bad guy that night, pitching in the seventh inning and allowing one run, a day after Tyler Glasnow pitched eight shutout innings against them at Dodger Stadium.

The Mets managed just four hits against Winn and the Giants bullpen.

Jose Quintana had the second consecutive disappointing performance from a Mets starting pitcher by allowing five earned runs in five-plus innings.

A day earlier, Adrian Houser allowed eight earned runs in four innings in a loss to the Dodgers.

That night, Quintana walked three batters, continuing the trend of Mets starting pitchers dishing out free passes.
