“Metal Gear Is Dead, And You Killed It” – MGS3 Remake Producer Shares “Honest Opinions” Fans Sent Konami About Revival

A new stream from Konami has revealed some details about Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, and the developers took the opportunity to share some of the feedback they’ve received from fans.

After soliciting questions and comments about the Metal Gear series a few months ago, Konami received “an even greater response than we expected, with many people sharing messages of support,” as explained production producer Noriaki Okamura. “We are truly grateful for all the kind words. But on the other hand, fans who watched the show have very different feelings about the show, which we understand, because we’re fans too. Therefore, although we have received positive feedback, we have also received many critical responses and requests. »

The comments were 65% neutral, 24% positive, and 11% negative. The latter category included comments like “Metal Gear is dead and you killed it,” “You can’t even do a simple remaster,” “Gameplay-impacting bugs should have been fixed before release,” and “You’re probably going to do a bad job on the next game, so I’d rather you just give up.”

Okamura notes that it’s a difficult comeback, “but if that’s how the fans feel, I don’t blame any of them for sharing their honest opinions. And even if we’re not able to to speak individually about all of these concerns, I want to, first of all, assure everyone that we are listening to these comments and we are taking them seriously.

It’s worth noting that Konami only categorized 11% of the responses as negative, leaving 89% as neutral or positive. But a phrase like “Metal Gear is dead, and you killed it” shows why some longtime fans of the series are skeptical of Konami reviving the series. Konami’s breakup with Hideo Kojima, long considered the auteur behind the spy series, was notoriously messy, and the company didn’t exactly do its best to turn Metal Gear Solid 5 into a sequel like Metal Gear Survive — especially when it thanked the original developers with a simple “special thanks” to “all the staff.”

It’s a mistake that Metal Gear Solid Delta won’t repeat, at least not in the future. On that same show, Okamura confirmed that the remake would credit Kojima and the original developers because “they’re also a part of these games.”

With big projects like Death Stranding 2 and original concepts like DO in the works, perhaps it’s for the best that Kojima himself has new horizons to pursue.
