Meta layoffs surprise employees who said they were strong artists

  • Certain meta-travelers affected by the job cuts on Monday were surprised because they had solid history.
  • Meta’s layoffs targeted 5% of poorly performing artists. Some better rated employees said they were “blind”.
  • The meta-PDG Mark Zuckerberg prompted to rationalize the workforce of the company.

Several meta-employees who said they had received positive performance notes in their mid-year reviews last year reduced their jobs on Monday, while the company dropped nearly 4,000 workers during its last Series of job discounts.

Business Insider spoke with eight licensed employees, who declared having received notes “at expectations” or above – the intermediate level of the mid -year exam system in three levels of meta – in their evaluations 2024. These employees said they were surprised to learn that their notes had been demoted to “meet the most”, one of the lower levels of the Meta end -of -year performance system which refers to the Most expectations, but not everyone, and could make them eligible for Monday’s cuts on Monday. They asked to be anonymous because they were not allowed to discuss the internal questions of the company.

The job cuts arise from Meta’s thrust to abandon around 5% of its least efficient employees, according to the internal directives sent to managers in January. Although Meta supervised these cuts as targeting underperforming workers, internal advice sent last month by the Hillary champion, the director of people of Meta, and considered by BI, allowed managers to include employees of higher performance levels if they could not achieve their lower reduction goals -the employees classified alone.

Many employees said they had been caught by their inclusion in the cuts, because these directives had previously been shared only with managers, and not with broader workforce.

“When I received the email, I was surprised mainly because I have a very solid performance history and no indicator of the last six months of performance problems,” said an employee affected BI.

Meta began its end -of -year performance review process for 2024 in December, although most employees only learned their final grades in the coming weeks.

The meta-PDG, Mark Zuckerberg, pushed to rationalize Meta’s workforce while the company pays billions in artificial intelligence and virtual reality. The cuts could become an annual event because Meta aims to regularly cut what she considers her weakest performers. Meanwhile, Meta plans to strengthen the hiring of automatic learning engineers to work on AI.

Meta did not respond to a request for BI comments.

Meta has downgraded the grades of certain employees

Several employees told BI that they felt frustrated that Meta had publicly supervised dismissals as targeting coherent performers when some of the affected people had previously received solid performance reviews.

In articles on the workplace, Meta’s internal communication platform, several licensed employees shared their performance stories, according to screenshots viewed by Bi. An employee who said they were “unexpectedly” dismissed documents displayed that they had always met or exceeded expectations for four years before being demoted to “meet most” at the end of 2024. Another employee said he had been cut shortly after his return from parental leave, despite receipt of an “or above” expectations of expectations at the beginning of 2024.

“I am super confused with the way I was dismissed,” they wrote. “I always think it’s a mistake.”

The sudden gradient of performance notes has left many employees feeling distorted by Meta’s public position on layoffs. Some employees feared that the qualification of “weak interpreter” cannot harm future employment prospects.

“The most difficult part is the public meta-publication that they cut off low performance, so we have the impression of having the scarlet letter on the back,” said another employee at BI. “People need to know that we are not underperformants.”

“I would certainly challenge Meta’s account on the cup only artists,” said another employee affected. “I have a very difficult time to believe that I was a little efficient depending on the past comments that were given to me.”

Another employee said that their manager had given them no indication that their work was in danger.

“The leadership told us that if we would be touched by this, we would already touch on the basis of conversations, our managers should have had with us in our weekly head,” said a former employee. “But I was completely blinded by that. My manager told me that I was doing very well and that I did not provide areas on which to be worked on. My manager even said that I would be well and not impact. “”

Likewise, another worker who received a note “exceeds expectations” in their mid-year examination said they were surprised to be “abandoned two notes” to “meet the most” without explanation.

“We are not even able to see the comments that our manager wrote for us,” they said.
