The Men’s T20 World Cup returns to the forefront of the cricket calendar this weekend as the four-week tournament begins on Saturday evening in Texas, with the United States co-hosting the tournament for the first time ever.
The West Indies join as co-hosts, with the final taking place in Barbados, the venue where England won their first ever World Cup title in this format in 2010.
England return to the West Indies as reigning world champions after winning the last edition of the tournament in November 2022, beating Pakistan in the final in Melbourne.
India go into the competition as 11/4 tournament favorites, with the IPL having only concluded last weekend, with the team, led by Rohit Sharma, looking to be crowned T20 world champions for the first time since the inaugural edition in 2007. .
Australia, who were crowned world champions in the 50-over format last fall, have the chance to double their white-ball trophies, becoming the second team to do so following England’s 2022 victory which made them world champions in both formats.
The Australians, led by Mitchell Marsh, are second favorites at 7/2 and many of their members have performed very well in the IPL over the past couple of months.
Defending champions England are third favorites at 9/2 to defend their title, buoyed by the recent return from injury of fast bowler Jofra Archer to their seam attack.
Jos Buttler’s side begin their tournament against Scotland in Barbados on Tuesday afternoon before taking on Australia in a Group B clash at the same ground. Matthew Mott’s team will then travel to Antigua where they will face Oman and Namibia, looking to secure a top-two finish which will take them to the Super 8s.
Other title contenders are South Africa at 13/2 who are still seeking their first world title in any format, while two-time champions West Indies are 8/1 and have impressed in recent series on their land.
New Zealand, runners-up in 2021, and Pakistan, champions in 2009, are both priced further out, at 9/1, to become world T20 champions.
