Melissa Gorga believed NJ earthquake ‘was a ghost,’ called 911
Melissa Gorga initially thought the 4.8 magnitude earthquake that shook the tri-state area was a ghost.
“I was kind of freaking out… I was like, ‘Wow! I’ve never known a ghost before, maybe it was a ghost,'” the “Real Housewives of New Jersey” star recalled to Entertainment Tonight shortly after the earthquake shook her home Friday.
Gorga, 45, said she was working out at her Franklin Lakes, New Jersey, mansion when she felt the ground rumble beneath her.
“I have weights in my hands and I was like, ‘What’s happening?’ It felt like my roof was shaking, the ground was shaking, and it really felt like a stampede, like people were running, running, running. And I froze because I get nervous,” she explained.
Can’t get enough of “Real Housewives”?
The owner of Envy by Melissa Gorga also admitted that she thought her home may have been invaded because she was home alone with her dog and received a notification that her front door entrance was open.
” I scream. I run up the stairs,” she said. “I have 911 ready to go. So I dialed it on my phone.
It’s unclear if police showed up at Melissa’s home, but her husband, Joe Gorga, called her shortly after the earthquake to make sure she was OK.
Once Melissa regained her composure, she took to Instagram to poke fun at the situation by sharing a home security video. Although the house does not appear to be shaking in the video, rattling sounds can be heard as well as two screams from the reality star.
“EARTHQUAKE in New Jersey!” Oh my god!!” she captioned the post.
“I just went running up my stairs from the basement/I was working out while calling 911 because it looked like there was a stampede going on upstairs, then I got a notification on my phone indicating that my front door was open!” she added.
“I was panicking! It was a first!
The damage caused by the earthquake is currently being assessed. It was the largest in the tri-state area since 1973, according to WABC.
