Melania Trump documentary directed by Brett Ratner acquired by Prime Video

A documentary about First Lady Melania Trump directed by Brett Ratner is headed to Prime Video, an Amazon spokesperson confirmed Sunday morning.

The company has “obtained an exclusive license” for the project “for theatrical and streaming release,” they said, with the project expected to offer viewers “an unprecedented behind-the-scenes look” at Trump.

Filming began in December – a month after Donald Trump won a second presidential election – with a planned release in the second half of next year. Fernando Sulichin serves as executive producer for New Element Media, alongside Ms. Trump.

“Prime Video will share more details about the project as filming progresses and release plans are finalized,” the spokesperson said. “We are thrilled to share this truly unique story with our millions of customers around the world. »

Amazon’s deal for the Trump document comes as no surprise, given the support for the former and future POTUS from the tech giant’s founder Jeff Bezos, who after the latest election victory of Trump, addressed X to salute his “extraordinary political return”. Bezos, owner of the Washington Post, made headlines during the election by deciding that the newspaper would withhold his support for president for the first time in nearly four decades, citing the possibility of creating a “perception of bias.” The move was not well received by journalists, editorial board members and other staff, with Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist Ann Telnaes being the most recent to resign. She announced her departure Friday due to the newspaper’s refusal to publish a satirical cartoon targeting Bezos’ relationship with the president-elect. Amazon announced a $1 million donation to Trump’s inauguration last month.

Most recently First Lady under the first presidential administration of Donald Trump, from 2017 to 2021, Melania is a former Slovenian model and businesswoman who began her modeling career as a teenager and later moved to Milan and Paris before moving to New York in 1996. She first met Donald Trump in 1998, married him in 2005, before becoming an American citizen in 2006. As As a First Lady, she is perhaps best known for initiatives such as “Be Best,” focused on children’s well-being, online safety and opioid abuse prevention.

Besides the Trump documentary landing on Amazon, the most notable aspect of the project is expected to be the involvement of Ratner, a prominent director and producer best known for the Rush hour films, who has stepped away from studio projects since 2017, when he faced multiple allegations of sexual misconduct during the height of the Me Too movement. Following these allegations, Ratner saw the breakdown of Warner Bros’ $450 million co-financing deal with his production company, RatPac Entertainment. He recently directed an episode of the Nat Geo documentary series. Breakthrough in 2015.

Fox News has revealed the story behind the upcoming documentary.
