Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, revealed in the first episode of her new podcast that she suffered from postpartum preeclampsia.
Meaghan, formerly Meghan Markle, who shares Archie, 5 years old and Lilibet, 3, with her husband, Prince Harry, shared the news Tuesday during a conversation with Bumble Whitney Wolfe Herd on “Confessions of a Women Founder with Meghan”.
“We both have had very similar experiences, even if we did not know each other at the time, with postpartum, and we both had pre-eclampsia. Préclampsie post-partum,” said Duchess, formerly known as Meghan Markle.
“Can you believe that we both had that? It is so rare,” said Herd.
“It’s so rare … and so scary,” replied Meghan.
“And you always try to juggle all these things, and the world does not know what is going on, quietly,” said Meghan. “And in peace, you always try to go to people. And calm, you always try to present yourself mainly for your children, but these things are huge medical fears.”
“I mean life or death, really,” said Herd.
Postpartum preeclampsia is a rare but serious condition linked to high blood pressure and occurs up to six weeks after childbirth. It can cause a stroke, brain lesions, convulsions – and in some cases death – if it is not treated, according to the Cleveland Clinic.
The condition is different from preeclampsia, which occurs during pregnancy. People who have not suffered from preeclampsia during pregnancy can obtain postpartum preeclampsia.
Herd then spoke of the moment when Meghan made his debut in the world after giving birth.
“I will never forget the image of you after delivering Archie, and the whole world was waiting for its beginnings,” she said. “I was just becoming or about to become a new mother, and I said to myself:” Oh my God, how does this woman do? ” How does this woman put on the heels and goes and makes her debut in this beautiful outfit in front of the whole world? I could barely cope with a door delivery for take -out dishes in a dress. »»
“The postpartum is wild, it’s so wild. It’s almost like a foot in a world and a foot in another world, and it is a very confusing place to live,” she added.
