Meghan Markle’s team pitched the idea of a “post-Harry divorce book” to a publisher, according to a damning new expose from Vanity Fair.
The scathing article, published Friday, looks at the troubled business ventures of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, painting a tragic picture of a desperate couple trying to find purpose and maintain relevance after leaving royal life .
Numerous former colleagues and associates spoke to Vanity Fair for the article, including a source who claimed that Meghan’s “team has had a conversation with a publishing house to gauge interest” in a book that “could center on a post-Harry divorce.”
The source did not disclose the date Markle’s team proposed the idea, nor the name of the publishing house it was allegedly pitched to. Vanity Fair clarifies that “no written or formal proposals” for the book ever came to fruition, while another insider disputes that the incident ever happened.
While some sources defended the Duke and Duchess to Vanity Fair, the expose also includes interviews with several people who worked with Markle and criticized her “bully” behavior.
Some said they were “going to long-term therapy after working with Meghan”, while another described her as a “mean girls” teenager.
A person who has worked with Markle on media projects told the publication that her time with the “Suits” star was “really, really, really horrible” and “very painful.”
“She’s constantly playing checkers – I’m not even going to say chess – but she’s just very aware of everyone’s position on her board,” they said. “And when you’re not there, you must at all times be thrown to the wolves.”
The source said Markle never yelled at any employees, but engaged in more tacit forms of bullying.
“It’s talking behind your back,” the person explained. “It eats away at your self-esteem.”
“You can be yelled at even if someone doesn’t raise their voice. (It’s) funny that people don’t know the difference between the energy of being yelled at and the energy of someone yelling at you,” they added.
Multiple sources have confirmed that someone who worked with Markle on her Spotify podcast “Archetypes” took a leave of absence after just three episodes before quitting altogether.
