Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Nigeria itinerary is here

Tomorrow, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will land in Nigeria, marking the duo’s first official international tour since stepping down as senior royals and decamping to the sunny shores of California. Harry is currently in London, but People shared the couple’s full itinerary for the Nigeria trip, which includes a busy schedule and, perhaps, a way for the African nation to cement the opportunity to host future Invictus Games.

It’s all set to begin tomorrow, Friday May 10, when the Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrive in Nigeria. Upon arrival, they will begin their royal duties, which include visiting a school, meeting with Nigeria’s Chief of Defense Staff and visiting injured servicemen at a military hospital.

The following day, Harry and Meghan are expected to attend a training session for Nigeria: Unconquered, a charity that works with the Invictus Games, before attending a reception hosted by the Chief of the Defense Staff which will make also a tribute to the families of the country’s military. . Meghan will then host an event without her husband as she co-hosts a conversation with Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization. The weekend will conclude with a basketball clinic with the Giants of Africa, a “cultural reception” and a polo fundraiser on Sunday.

Nigeria participated in the Invictus Games for the first time last year. The annual event is an “adaptive sports competition for wounded, injured and ill military personnel and veterans.” Nigerian Defense Minister Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar Badaru was at the Dusseldorf Games and hopes to bring them to his home country.

While there’s no news yet on whether or not Nigeria will host the games in 2026 (the 2025 event is already planned in Canada), the country has a special connection with Markle. In 2022, she declared that she was 43% Nigerian after taking a genealogy test. During an episode of her Archetypes podcast, she told comedian Ziwe Fumudoh: “I’m going to start digging into this, because everyone I’ve talked to about it, especially Nigerian women, are like, ‘What?!'”

“This is huge for our community,” Ziwe said. “No, honestly, you look like a Nigerian, you look like my aunt Uzo. So that’s great.”

During last year’s Invictus Games, the Nigerian contingent gave Meghan a special nickname meaning “royal bride”.
