Mega Millions hits $800 million after no winner Friday night – NBC Chicago

Friday’s Mega Millions drawing produced no winners, leaving an estimated $800 million jackpot for Tuesday’s drawing.

If won, the $740 million jackpot, with a $371.6 million lump-sum cash payment option, would have been the seventh-largest jackpot won in Mega Millions history.

However, in the history of Mega Millions, the jackpot has always reached at least $1 billion after surpassing $656 million, which was the world record jackpot in 2012.

The largest Mega Millions jackpot of all time, worth $1.58 billion, was sold on August 8, 2023 in Florida.

The high value is a result of the fact that no Mega Millions jackpot winner has been drawn since June 4, when a lucky player from Illinois won $552 million.

Mega Millions is held in 45 states, Washington DC, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Drawings take place every Tuesday and Friday at 11:00 PM ET.

Attorney Andrew Stoltmann has represented 12 lottery winners, many of whom lost their winnings due to bad investments, reckless spending and the greed of their loved ones. “Unfortunately, people who win the lottery think that at that point the journey is over. But they don’t realize that the journey is just beginning,” says Stoltmann, who is based in Chicago.
