The friends of Big Bear Valley have announced the names of the two most recent white -headed pygargues in the mountain – Sunny and Gizmo.
The Eaglets hatched in early March and are the offspring of the famous white head couple by Big Bear, Jackie and Shadow.
Friends of Big Bear Valley revealed the names Tuesday afternoon through an article on Facebook.
After a denomination competition which received more than 54,000 admissions, the list was reduced to 30. The students of the Bear primary school voted from the list selected for winning names.
“Meet Sunny and Gizmo,” said the non -profit association on the Facebook post. “After the wonderful but long process of selection of names for the adorable Jackie and Shadow chicks, Bigger Chick is now called Sunny and Small Chick is now called Gizmo.”
The winners of the competition will be contacted by the group next week and will receive a certificate of recognition. There were several winners because the names were submitted by different people.
Although there was a third Aiglet that hatched with Sunny and Gizmo, their name was not part of the competition. The baby Eagle did not survive a snowstorm last month. This Aiglet was appointed Misty by Friends of Big Bear Valley in honor of Kathi Misterly, a devoted volunteer who lost his life because of cancer, said the organization.
