Kylian Mbappe is about to beat a record for Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid after scoring 31 goals already in his first season in Spain. Mbappe was signed by Real Madrid at the start of the current season 2024-25 and is only three goals from the Ronaldo record on the second joint goal during a first season at the club (33).
Ronaldo scored 33 goals all competitions during his first season for Real Madrid, which occurred in 2009-2010. Ronaldo is second in the list alongside Ruud Van Nistelrooy.
How far is Mbappe from the record of all time in Real Madrid?
The Chilean legend Ivan Zamorano holds the record in Real Madrid for most goals in a first season with 37 goals from all competitions, which was 1992-1993.
Mbappe has a minimum of 12 games this season to beat Ronaldo’s record and he is well placed to even exceed Zamorano. He has also already exceeded Brazil Ronaldo, who scored 30 goals in his first season (2002-03) in Real Madrid.
The 26 -year -old French striker Mbappe first fought after joining Real Madrid when he took the time to adapt to the system and play alongside Vinicius Junior which holds the favorite position of the right of the World Cup. However, the former PSG player now seems to be well established by the club, scoring 20 goals just at La Liga, which is most by a Real Madrid player since Ronaldo fired on 26 goals in his first season.
The record for most Liga goals by a Real Madrid player in his first season is 27, held by the late Alfredo Di Stefano.
Mbappe avoids Ronaldo’s Comprisons
Despite a recent success, Mbappe wants to remain anchored and recently declared that he scored more goals than Brazilian Ronaldo or Cristiano in his first season for Real Madrid does not mean that he is a better player than these legends.
“If I score more goals than Ronaldo and Cristiano, it does not mean that I am better, just that my first season is better. Marking goals are important, but it is even more if we win the Liga, the Champions League and the Copa del Rey,” said Mbappe after helping Real Madrid Beat Villareal.
