Maya Rudolph returns as Beyoncé in Hot Ones

It was all about mothers at this week’s Pre-Mother’s Day Summit Saturday Night Live.

The variety show forwent its typical topical cold open for a show starring SNL the actors share moments with their mothers.

Kenan Thompson kicked off the show by appearing on stage at Studio 8H with his mother because, he said, it’s ‘Mother’s Day in about 29 minutes,’ which, —she said, meant there was still “plenty of time to buy a gift.” »

“With so many upsetting stories in the world right now, we thought we’d take a break from a regular cold open and hear some heartwarming stories from our mothers instead.”

Still Thompson’s mother said she wanted to see who would play Stormy Daniels in a cold open debate focused on the porn star’s testimony at former President Donald Trump’s criminal trial. That wasn’t the only reference to last week’s news, as other moms brought up Netflix’s live roast of Tom Brady and the report that Robert F. Kennedy Jr. had a worm in his brain. The Trump trial and RFK Jr.’s “brain worm” were discussed on “Weekend Update.”

Other actors joined by the mothers included Andrew Dismukes, Chloe Fineman, Punkie Johnson, Mikey Day, Ego Nwodim, James Austin Johnson, Bowen Yang, Colin Jost, Marcello Hernandez and Michael Longfellow.

Day’s mother proudly referred to herself as “Butt-Head’s mom,” referencing her viral skit from April.

For her monologue, host Maya Rudolph took the stage and explained that she was well suited to host the pre-Mother’s Day episode because, as she said, “I’m a mom four times over.” I know four beautiful children.

She was later joined by Yang and Sarah Sherman, who noted that the actress was more than just the mother of her own children.

“You’re not just a mom,” Yang said. “You are a mother!”

Sherman added from the first SNL cast member: “You are a 30 Rock legend. You’ve had your foot on our neck since 2000.”

After questioning their praise, Rudolph turned serious and deadpan: “You’re right. »

Then, introduced by Thompson’s announcer, Mr. Infinity Decor, and accompanied by dancers, Rudolph posed as “Mother of the Rockefeller House.”

After a few moments on stage, Rudolph took an iconic walk around the set, where she earned two “10s” from the judges and an “I’m gagged” from another judge as she rapped about her status as a iconic mother.

During the song, she interspersed moments of her SNL career and his memorable role in Bridesmaids with traditional maternal duties.

“You remember in that movie when I pooped my pants,” she rapped. “When you were a baby, you pooped your pants and I changed your diaper. I am your mother.

Later, Beyoncé from Rudolph returned to The hot ones in a Cowboy Carter-inspired update from the memorable segment, wearing a Western outfit and the platinum blonde hair she debuted at the Grammys.

When Mikey Day’s Sean Evans asked her why she came back, Rudolph’s Beyoncé responded, “It’s the only thing I’ve tried and didn’t kill.” This bothered me and my husband…Jay-Z.

Although she started off confidently and wasn’t bothered by the first wing, after the second wing, Rudolph’s Beyoncé quickly pulled back and said, “This wing is stomping on me.” »

“My bones are warm. This wing was a real one,” she said. “You’re about to make me sing ‘It’s not Texas’.”

As the wings got spicier, she continued to struggle, interrupting Evans before he could finish his question, asking the host to blur her face before she belched, throwing milk in Evans’ face and bringing out his assistant, first to ask her if it was possible. “removing someone’s bones from their body and replacing them with burning bones,” which he later tells her isn’t possible, and then having her squirt cocoa butter lotion into her mouth.
