Max Verstappen is the dad on and off the track. Having become a father for the first time a few days earlier, he took the post for the Miami Grand Prix.
The Dutchman arrived in Florida late after his girlfriend Kelly Piquet gave birth to Baby Lily, but he put the feeling aside to Lando Norris of Pip McLaren by six hundredths of a second.
“Becoming a dad did not slow me down,” smiles Verstappen. “I have never listened to these stupid things. I’m just doing my thing.
“There were enough pilots who were champions after having become daddy. I don’t know where the idea comes from.
Norris can take a positive from yesterday after winning the Sprint race earlier in the afternoon with the help of a timely security car, which put him ahead of the teammate and the head of the Oscar Piastri championship.
And by qualifying for the main event today – for which the rain is on the radar – Piastri was only fourth faster, because it defends an advantage of nine points. Mercedes’s teenager Kimi Antonelli divided the two McLarens.
