Max Scherzer to sign with Blue Jays: Future Hall of Famer accepts the one year agreement, $ 15.5 million

The right -wing starter launcher of the free agent Max Scherzer accepted the terms of the Blue Jays de Toronto on a one -year contract will pay him $ 15.5 million, confirmed Jim Bowden of CBS Sports HQ.

Scherzer, 40, has only managed to start with the Texas Rangers last season, while he was fighting against the hamstrings and shoulder injuries after his return from back surgery. These nine starts were a mixed bag because it dominated several times but ended up with a 3.95 MPM (101 ERA +) in 43 ⅓ sleeves. He withdrew 40 years while walking 10 with a whip of 1.15.

CBS Sports ranked Scherzer as the 12th best free free agent, writing what follows::

Scherzer has been limited by a nine start injury this season; None before June, and only one after August. Add its limited availability in the section in 2023, and it seems just to think that the wheels are starting to take place for the 40 -year -old man. However, Scherzer expressed his desire to present in 2025. Who should we make fun of the idea? Besides, he performed well when he was able, leaving us no doubt that a team will sign him with pleasure on a one -year pact – if only to make sure they are mentioned one day On the road, when he gives his speech to induct in CoopStown.

The future temple of fame plays at this stage due to competitiveness. He won three cy Youngs, made eight teams of stars and won two World Series rings. He has 3,407 career with career sticks and 216 victories, so there is nothing to realize that he can check the list by clinging to a year or two more.

Of course, it is possible that he thinks that he can win another Cy Young with a full health season. The only launchers to win at least four were Roger Clemens, Randy Johnson, Greg Maddux and Steve Carlton. It is not even an All-Star since 2021, but in 23 departures in 2022, it had 11-5 with an MPM of 2.29 and 174 sticks in the stick in 152 ⅔ sleeves and it is an ACE type line .

Scherzer is to join a rotation of the Blue Jays who includes Kevin Gausman, José Berríos and Chris Bassitt. It is the latest addition to a Blue Jays team who tries to bounce back following several puffs earlier in winter (and more recently on the Japanese AS Roki Sasaki). He joins an off -season bonus which includes the Voltigeur Anthony Santandar, the interior field player Andrés Giménez and the lifts Jeff Hoffman, Yimi García and Nick Sandlin.

Just as important, the Blue Jays have not exchanged or the first basic player Vladimir Guerrero Jr. or the Bo Bichette Bo Bichette, who will qualify for the free agency after the coming season. In fact, there were rumors all winter suggesting that the Blue Jays are trying to extend Guerrero before the start of the season. Whether or not it is done, it is being seen.

The Blue Jays went 74-88 last season, ending the last in the American League East for the first time since 2013.
