Mauricio Pochettino applauds during press conference as incredible Chelsea stat is mentioned

So when it was pointed out during his press conference that Chelsea were in top form, Pochettino could only applaud.

It was explained to the Argentine that only three teams have gained more points (35) in the Premier League since Boxing Day than Chelsea (Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool).

The west London side have had a disastrous start to the season, winning just once in their opening six Premier League matches.

But since February 12, Chelsea have lost just once in the league and are now closing in on seventh place in Europe, although there may still be a game too late.

Pochettino said: “People talk a lot this season. People talk about a lot of things.

“If you ask me about everything that has happened in the last 10 months, then I think getting into Europe would be very good for us.

“But are we going to judge people based on the results or are we going to judge people because of the process that was put in place and all the circumstances that we had to deal with? It’s a difficult thing to judge.

“I don’t want to be repetitive but I think it’s too much the Chelsea story. Even if we win the next two games it won’t be a successful season.

“We want to think too much about Chelsea’s history. But for me it can be a very good season.”

Chelsea face Brighton on Wednesday before taking on Bournemouth on Sunday on the final day of the season and after three straight wins, confidence has returned to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea fan admits he was wrong about Mauricio Pochettino and claims he needs more time at club after Premier League win over Nottingham Forest

Pochettino added: “It is important to keep a strong mentality and really believe that we can enter (Europe).

“It’s true that it’s going to be two really difficult games because tomorrow against Brighton, they’re a very good team and they’re going to be really difficult to play against them, and then (we have) Bournemouth at home (on the last day ) .

“The most important thing is to believe in it. The team is doing well, in the second part of the season – in the last 26 or 27 games – I think we are doing very well.

“We have to continue like this, always trying to give the best of ourselves, to be competitive and to continue to improve.

“If we can compete well in the last two matches, we will have the opportunity to advance to Europe, which would be incredible for us.”
