Spoiler alert! This story contains details of the cross episodes of Thursday from Law and order And Law and order: SVU On NBC.
On April 17, the two flagship programs of Dick Wolf organized their third crossing since May 2022 by referring to rape and brutal murders (what else?) Of several marginalized women in the Big Apple. The two -hour event on NBC also marked the first time that Maura Tierney – who joined L&O This season as Lieutenant Jessica Brady – was to kick a real cop ass. (Her character recognizes that “it’s been a minute” since she was physical for the last time with a PERP).
Here, Tierney returns to the 24th season so far and explains how the crossing episodes unexpectedly recalled his days playing Abby Lockhart ER.
Deadline how will he join Law and order? How did the rhythm felt in relation to the other series you have made?
MAURA TIERNEY Well, it’s very different because the show East Half-free, half order. (Laughs) So, often, it’s really fast because they will stack all the constituency scenes in one or two days. The pace is very fast on the days given, but sometimes I will not work a few times a week. So I have more free time than, let’s say, when I was on ER. And the scenes are much more concentrated. The other day, I had three interrogations back to back. Or maybe four, I’m not sure. It can be hectic, but it’s fun.
Deadline how was it to live in this darker world?
Tierney Well, it’s literally darker. The whole is so dark. I think the show looks very cool, but it is dark in there. It is also dark because someone dies every week, but I think there is an excitement in pursuit. It is dark when they have young people who die, but often the investigations prevail over the tragedy of loss. It’s really on the back of the guest stars. They have a lot. It is difficult work.
Deadline What is refreshing on this subject compared to your previous series?
Tierney I love working in New York. The case started in New York, but the last two seasons, we have moved to the End. I really like to work here. I like to work outside in the seasons. The other day we pulled in front of Radio City. I don’t like the dark scene so much.
The deadline made L&O Always attract a crowd?
Tierney It’s very cold. They will be like: ‘Hey, what’s new? How are you?’ They are very friendly, but no one stops and looks at. They are very New York. It’s good. No one looks.
Deadline at the start, did you have a big word to say in the look of Jessica Brady?
Tierney The costume tree is very collaborative, but we cannot do so. Jessica is a lieutenant, so she has a dress accordingly. I therefore generally wear a suit or a jacket or a version of this, but it must look professional all the time. We don’t see it at home. I don’t know how this character would dress at home. I started wearing sneakers but it didn’t work because the guys are so tall. I needed a certain height on me. I needed boots to get there.
Deadline, you have a fun line in the crossing episode where you say that you “have not played so raw in one minute”. So have we not seen Jessica be all hard in the previous episodes?
Tierney No, and it was so funny because I said I wanted to do waterfalls. But then I was like, oh, paying attention to what you want because I fail. Mariska Hargitay is really good in this area. But I was very temporary. We had to beat this guy and my double stunt was actually my double double on Er, which is wild. I saw her and I said to myself: “Oh my God, I’m so happy that you are there.” I felt miserable to pretend to kick the guy at the back of the knee and I needed to use my stomach because, I don’t know, I was afraid of injuring another actor. It was not a stuntman. It was fun, but I won’t say that I excelled.
Deadline, I cannot believe that you needed a double cascade on ER.
Tierney Well, my character Abby was sometimes beaten. She was beaten by a violent husband. We also had to go in front of a green screen once and out of a helicopter.
The dynamics of the Brady deadline with Benson was interesting. I started to wonder if we would see these two powerful women competing each other. How would you describe the differences between Benson and Brady?
Tierney Benson has emotions and Brady does not show much. I just think Benson is a little more empathetic than mine. I don’t think these were so many powerful women. They compete with regard to the way they do the work of the police. They do not compete on their goals. It was therefore not only two powerful women who stand. It was very balanced in terms of sometimes, a clearer approach works and sometimes a more difficult approach works. The characters understood this throughout these two episodes. We both realized that they could learn from each other. I would not be surprised if the crossing reproduces. We had a great time. It was very fun.
Deadline, you shared the screen before, right?
Tierney It was a similar confrontation on the best way to do the work, and my character was more than necessary. Benson was not. So we have somehow built on this.
Deadline what can we expect from the final?
Tierney The finish is really great. This implies more of the character of Odelya Halevi, Maroun. It is more on its history. I don’t have as much to do in the final, but there is a slight cliffhanger, which the spectacle does not really do. So I think it will be fun for the public.
Deadline and above all, you come back, right?
Tierney The show has not yet been officially picked up, but yes, I will come back if the show returns.
