Matthew Perry’s assistant and doctors involved in his death: report

The recent developments surrounding the death of actor Matthew Perry are far more sinister than initially thought. What was once classified as an accidental drowning is now turning into a complex case potentially involving homicide.

Five defendants, including two doctors and Perry’s housekeeper who had worked for him for nearly two decades, have been formally charged in connection with the actor’s death. U.S. Attorney Martin Estrada revealed that the medical professionals gave Perry a significant amount of ketamine, a drug commonly used as an anesthetic. Additionally, it was discovered that the doctors discussed how much the former Friends star might be willing to pay in a series of text messages, using derogatory language to refer to him.

“These defendants took advantage of Perry’s addiction problems to enrich themselves. They knew what they were doing was wrong,” Estrada said.

‘Disturbing’ text message exchange between doctors

Perry developed a ketamine addiction while seeking treatment. When his regular doctors refused to help him, he was introduced to the two indicted doctors. Jasveen Sangha, 41, the drug dealer also known as “The Ketamine Queen,” and licensed physicians Dr. Salvador Plascencia, 42, and Dr. Mark Chavez allegedly orchestrated the scheme with another street dealer.

In desperation, Perry turned to them, who clearly saw an opportunity to exploit the situation. In a text message exchange between them, one doctor reportedly said, “I wonder how much this jerk is going to pay.” Perry, driven by desperation, paid $2,000 for a vial of ketamine that cost the doctors about $12.

Perry’s home assistant pleads guilty

Kenneth Iwamasa found the FRIENDS star’s face upside down in his hot tub on October 28 and called paramedics, who pronounced him dead. Iwamasa recently reportedly pleaded guilty to obtaining ketamine from another defendant, Eric Fleming. Fleming had originally received the drugs from Sangha. Iwamasa reportedly received a shipment of nearly 50 vials of ketamine for Perry, 25 of which were delivered four days before the actor’s death.

“Fleming admitted in court documents to distributing the ketamine that killed Perry. He also admitted to obtaining the ketamine from his source,” according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Evolution so far

  • Dr. Salvador Plasencia is accused of giving ketamine to Perry and his personal assistant, Kenneth Iwamasa, without proper medical reason and without a valid prescription on at least seven occasions.
  • Authorities say the ketamine in Sangha caused Perry’s death.
  • Two people involved, including Iwamasa, have already admitted to the charges, and another person has decided to plead guilty.
  • Sangha and Plasencia could make their first court appearances later Thursday, both having pleaded not guilty.
  • The assistant admitted to frequently giving Perry ketamine injections without any medical training, even giving him several injections on the day he died, October 28, 2023.

“We allege that each of the defendants played a key role in his death by falsely prescribing, selling, or injecting the ketamine that caused Matthew Perry’s tragic death,” DEA Administrator Anne Milgram said.
