Huntington Beach – There were not many long points in the quarter -final match of the CIF -SS division 2 between the Volleyball Mater Dei and Edison Boys teams on Wednesday at Edison High School.
Although none of the two teams can maintain the momentum for important intervals, the monarchs have gathered enough bursts to defeat the charges, 25-17, 25-22, 23-25, 25-19.
Mater dei (25-12-1) will play St. Francis de la CaƱada in the semi-finals on Saturday in St. Francis High.
Jeremiah Potasi and Dylan Gallagher were the significant leaders of the monarchs, ending with 14 and 13 striking attacks, respectively.
Potasi scored almost all of his points with transverse killed on the left side.
“For me personally, I just swung a deeper corner,” said Potasi. “Edison does a good work in installation and a very good block, so I was trying to get around the block, to become high, to be intelligent rather than to go up and to try to bounce each ball.”
Nathan King managed 14 striking attacks and Connor McNally added 11 striking attacks for the loaders (14-17).
The monarchs led from the first point and never dragged into the first set. But the second set was undoubtedly the decisive whole of the match.
The charges led during most of the whole but never more than three points.
Beck Schobel de Mater Dei served an ace that landed inside the back line to make the 17-17 score.
The killing of Potasi then gave the monarchs an advance of a point.
The monarchs led 23-20 when a block and a king death obtained the charges at one point.
Then, Potasi’s discharge shooting and Gallagher’s block won the whole to watch Dei.
The third set was similar to the second, Edison keeping a thin advance.
But this time, instead of late late, the loads hung on the head.
Edison led 24-23 and the monarchs were at a point to force overtime.
Kyle Duffy’s death gave the charge the winning point to extend the match to a fourth set.
But in the fourth set, Mater Dei took an advance of 6-1 and never dragged.
While the charges tried to retaliate, the early reverse was too much to overcome.
“We have a little emptied the tank in the third, then this slow start in the fourth,” said Edison coach Eli Perez. “We had a few moments when we come back, but when you play a good team like that, four or five points in Division 1 or 2, or Sunset League, it’s so difficult to come back. They did good to remain coherent and maintain this advance.”
