Masked Singer UK fans say replacing Rita Ora with Maya Jama was a ‘brilliant idea’

The sixth series of The Masked Singer UK began tonight (January 4) and fans are happy to see that Maya Jama has signed up for the series.

The 30-year-old TV star has joined The Masked Singer to replace singer Rita Ora, who was on the panel for the first five series. However, it was announced last year that Rita would not return as she joined the panel on the American version. As a result, viewers couldn’t be happier with this change.

“Replacing Rita Ora with Maya Jama was a brilliant idea,” shared a fifth user.

Ahead of the new series, Maya took to Instagram to share some behind-the-scenes snaps. She also expressed her excitement about being a new addition to the panel.

“I’m so excited to join the Masked Singer family,” she wrote. “I felt very official with my notepad, nervous being the newbie but this series is so much fun!”

The sixth series saw Davina McCall, Jonathan Ross and Mo Gilligan return as detective judges and Joel Dommett as host.

Giant Joel revealed as Olympic champion

After introducing Giant Joel, a larger-than-life lookalike of host Joel, during the Christmas special, fans finally discovered their true identity early in the series.

While the panel guessed Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly, Jonathan was correct in guessing it was Olympic champion Mo Farah.

Following their unmasking, they joined the panel for the remainder of the episode to try to guess the identities of the new contestants.

As the studio audience voted for their favorite to stay, Spag Bol found himself voted out first. However, viewers won’t find out who they are until tomorrow night’s episode (January 5).
