Maryland ‘Power Couple’ nab $2M in lottery draw

A lucky Maryland couple won $2 million after unwittingly purchasing two identical tickets for the same Powerball drawing.

“I looked it up and went to the Powerball site,” he told Maryland Lottery officials. “I saw the numbers and said, ‘No! »

The Annapolis man said the miracle drawing happened after he visited a 7-Eleven store on Bestgate Road and used the lottery terminal’s replay feature.

The man used this feature to scan old tickets to find winners and print new tickets with the same numbers, but he didn’t think he would find himself sitting on a gold mine.

A number of tickets had the same numbers, leaving him with duplicates.

After learning that 7-Eleven had sold two million-dollar winning tickets, he quickly went back to check his stack.

At first, the man realized that there were a number of winners at $4.

As he continued scanning, he was shocked when he scanned a ticket matching the first five numbers of the drawing, which won him $1 million.

Overjoyed, he called his wife and recalled that the couple “had their crying moment” but were not prepared for what was about to happen.

“He was joking about it,” his wife recalls with a smile. “He said, ‘I still have tickets to pass.’ What if I have the second million dollar bill?

And before they knew it, they held another million-dollar winning ticket.

“It was breathtaking. I didn’t know I had overtaken him,” the father of two said.

The couple said they planned to invest the winnings.
