Maryland girl charged with stabbing fellow teen to death in Washington

DC police said Sunday they have charged a young Maryland girl with murder after authorities accused her of fatally stabbing another teenage girl overnight along the U Street hallway.

Metropolitan Police said the teenage suspect, a 16-year-old from Waldorf, had been arrested and charged with second-degree murder for the murder of Naima Liggon, a 17-year-old also from Waldorf.

Police said officers first went to a local hospital around 2.10am, where Ms Liggon had taken herself to have her stab wounds treated. The teenager eventually died of her injuries.

An investigation revealed that the stabbings took place inside and outside a business located in the 1900 block of 14th Street NW. Local NBC affiliate WRC-TV reported the fatal assault happened at McDonald’s on the corner of 14th and U streets.

Police said they arrested the 16-year-old suspect on Sunday. The girl, whose identity has not been revealed because she is a minor, was carrying a knife when she was taken into custody.
