Maruti Suzuki reports 2.2% increase in August production to 1.69 lakh units

The country’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India Ltd on Monday (September 2) announced a 2.2 per cent year-on-year (YoY) increase in its total production for August 2024, with production increasing to 1.69 lakh units from 1.65 lakh units in August 2023.

This comes after the company reported a 3.9 per cent YoY decline in its total sales for August 2024, with 1,81,782 units shipped compared to 1,89,082 units in the same month last year. Despite a 3.9 per cent decline in total sales compared to August 2023, Maruti Suzuki beat expectations, with its total sales marginally higher than CNBC-TV18’s estimate of 1.79 lakh units.

Passenger vehicle sales in China fell 8 percent to 1,43,075 units from 1,56,114 units a year ago. Sales in the mini-car segment, including Alto and S-Presso, declined to 10,648 units from 12,209 units. Compact cars, such as Baleno and Swift, saw a 20 percent decline to 58,051 units from 72,451 units last year.

Commercial vehicles, including the Grand Vitara and Brezza, saw a 7 per cent increase in sales from 58,746 to 62,684 units. Sales of the Eeco declined marginally from 11,859 to 10,985 units, while the Super Carry light commercial vehicle saw a slight decline from 2,564 to 2,495 units.

The company’s exports increased by 5.6 per cent to 26,003 units as against 24,614 units in the same period last year. However, total domestic sales (including passenger vehicles, light commercial vehicles and OEM sales) declined by 5.3 per cent to 1.55 lakh units as against 1.64 lakh units in August 2023.

Shares of Maruti Suzuki India Ltd closed at ₹12,424.85, up ₹3.60, or 0.029 per cent, on the Bombay Stock Exchange.
