Mark Cuban says he would present himself as a republican if he enters politics

Mark Cuban says he is not interested in entering politics – but if he did it, he ran as a republican.

“I would not run at all, but if I did, it would be much more fun to run as a republican,” said Cuban during an appearance on the podcast “Somebody’s Gotta with Tara Palmeri”, broadcast on Monday.

“Because in four years, it will be a different world, and who knows where people allegiance are. You know, the republican party of 10 years ago was nothing like today’s Republican Party,” added Cuban.

Cuban told Palmeri that he was “not a fan of one or the other of the parties”, but that running as a republican will be the “path of the slightest resistance” for him.

The star of “Shark Tank” planned a presidential offer several times, but has been seriously retained by going up one.

Cuban told CNN in June 2020 that he was seriously planned to come to the presidency as an independent candidate that year. Cuban said he had abandoned the idea after his “family elected him”.

Nor is it the first time that Cuban has spoke of running as a GOP candidate.

In 2017, Cuban told Fox News that he would probably present himself as a republican if he wanted to contest the presidential elections of 2020.

Cuban then declared that his choice of party was based on his conviction that “there is a place for someone who is socially a centrist” but also “very conservative tax”.

Speculations on the interest of Cuban policy was again arisen in 2023 after having sold his majority participation in the Dallas Mavericks and announced his departure from “Shark Tank”.

Cuban, however, did not dispute the 2024 presidential election. He first approved the re-election offer of President Joe Biden, but changed his support for Vice-President Kamala Harris after Biden abandoned the race.

“Who would happen through it? I can do more from the private sector,” Cuban said in Wired in an interview published in September, during which he was asked if he would show up in the elections.

“You cannot be president and change your health. You need to get the congress behind you, and that. As an entrepreneur, you can change everything,” added Cuban.

Cuban actively campaigned for Harris, delivering rally speeches in the states of the battlefield of Arizona, Michigan and Wisconsin. He also volunteered to serve in his administration if she won.

“I said to his team, look, put my name for the dry,” Cuban said in CNBC in September, referring to the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The very visible role of Cuban in the Harris campaign parallel to what Elon Musk was doing for President Donald Trump. During Trump’s race in 2024, Musk delivered rally speeches during gop events and actively campaigned for him on social networks.

From the perspective of the 2024 vote, Musk and Cuban also faced X, exchange beards and plead for their candidate of choice.

Cuban did not respond to a request for comments from Business Insider.
