“The message was burned in my brain,” she wrote. “‘Maria is not enough. Being the daughter of Eunice is not enough. Being a shriver is not enough. Being Maria Shriver to double safe is simply not enough.’ ‘
After numerous family tragedies, including the assassinations of his uncle JFK in 1963, and his uncle Bobby Kennedy In 1968, Maria explained how the method of crying from her family left her to cope with her own consequences.
“The outside world stopped cold in its footsteps, but no one in my family seemed to stop for a minute,” she recalls. “No one stopped to cry, no one stopped to speak, cry, and no one stopped to offer comfort, certainly not me or my brothers. For me, it was confusing, even terrifying.”
But in the midst of the pressure that came from such a legendary family, Maria persisted and continued to establish a life where she could stand alone. With Arnold, she welcomed children Katherine Schwarzenegger35 years old, Christina Schwarzenegger33 years old, Patrick Schwarzenegger31 and Christopher Schwarzenegger27.
In a poem that Maria later wrote in her book, she addresses her children and expresses the hope that they do not also feel doubtful of their self -esteem that she grew up.
“And so my child as you embark on this great adventure, never doubt your value,” she said. “Never question your value, never lose sight of who you are or where you come from.”
