Margot Robbie admitted she slipped an unscripted kiss with Brad Pitt on the set of ‘Babylon’ because she thought ‘the opportunity might never come again’

Two months ago, the first trailer for an upcoming period comedy-drama Babylon was released – and it quickly garnered tons of hype.
The film, which is slated for release in select theaters on December 23 and elsewhere on January 6, was directed by Damien Chazelle, who has also written and directed critically acclaimed projects. The Earth and Whiplash.
But aside from the film’s famed director and eye-catching trailers, the entire cast of Babylon left fans all the more excited for its release, with Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie, Diego Calva and Tobey Maguire being just a few of its big names.
In the film, Margot plays budding actress Nellie, who recruits Manny, played by Diego, and Jack, played by Brad, to help her find success and stardom in 1920s Hollywood.
Discuss the project during an interview with E! News, Margot shed some behind-the-scenes light on one of the movie’s biggest additions.
After revealing that she and Brad shared a kiss in the film, Margot admitted that the kiss “wasn’t in the script at all” and was completely improvised by her.
“It wasn’t in the script,” she said of the kiss. “But I thought, When will I get the chance to kiss Brad Pitt? i’m just gonna go.”
And so, Margot took matters into her own hands to make sure she got her long-awaited kiss with Brad.
While speaking with the director, Margot convinced Damien that his character Nellie kissing Jack would make perfect sense.
“I said, ‘Damien, I think Nellie would just go kiss Jack,'” she recalled. “And Damien was like, ‘Well, she could – wait, wait. You just want to kiss Brad Pitt. And I was like, ‘Oh, so sue me.’
“‘This opportunity may never come again,'” she continued. “And he was like, ‘It works for the character,’ and I was like, ‘I think so.'”
Well, after Damien admitted Margot’s character kissing Brad would make for a great scene, he actually asked her to “do that again” – something that Margot, who described the kiss as “just awesome”, was very happy to hear.
“He was like, ‘No, do it again. This really works,'” she said. “I was like, ‘Oh, great.'”
Margot previously collaborated with Brad in the 2015 comedy-drama The big courtand, more recently, in Quentin Tarantino’s blockbuster Once upon a time in Hollywood.
And the pair share a lifelong friendship – Brad even enlisted Margot’s help with delivering his slightly awkward acceptance speech at the 2020 BAFTA Awards.
As you may recall, Brad was prepared to crack a joke about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepping back from the Royal Family in order to spend more time in Canada.
But when he was suddenly unable to attend the ceremony, he asked Margot to deliver the speech on his behalf – the day before the big event.
Reading Brad’s speech aloud on a piece of paper, Margot recited, “He says he’s gonna name it [award] Harry because he is really happy to bring him back to the United States with him! Curiously, Prince Harry’s brother and sister-in-law – who were seated in the front row of the audience – laughed at the little joke with the rest of the crowd.
But recounting the night in a later appearance on hello americaMargot – who had been nominated for two awards – admitted she was so “freaked out” about giving Brad’s speech that she forgot to prepare any words herself.
“The night before he said to me, ‘Can you give my speech for me? I can’t be there,’ she said. “I was so freaked out by his speech that I didn’t didn’t even think of making one for myself.”
“I was up for two [awards],” she continued. “For both films in my category, and it wasn’t until I was on the way that I was like, ‘Oh my God, I hope I don’t win because I have nothing to say.””
