Marcus Godson: Queensland father dies in Bali before family can bring him home

A Queensland father has tragically died after suffering a “massive brain haemorrhage” while in Bali.

Marcus Filleul was on vacation on the Indonesian island when he suffered a brain hemorrhage. Doctors located a tumor last week.

The father-of-two, who was born in New Zealand but has lived in Queensland since 2013, underwent emergency surgery at BIMC Hospital in Kuta, south Bali.

Family and friends desperately tried to raise funds to allow Mr Filleul to return home and receive treatment in Australia, as he had no insurance and was at risk of having to pay $10,000 a day for hospital care in Bali.

But Mr. Filleul sadly died Monday morning, according to his friend Dayle Hart who created the GoFundMe page to raise money for his repatriation.

“He fought well until the end, and the family is very grateful to have been able to spend time with him last week,” Ms. Hart wrote.

She added: “Arrangements will now be made to repatriate Marcus to QLD. Thank you all for your kindness and generous donations.

Another friend described Mr Filleul as a “legend”.

“I cherish our friendship and our adventures together, even though they were cut short,” they wrote.

“I am grateful to have spent your last days with you and I wish you eternal happiness.”
