The Uconn Huskies n ° 2 obtained a return to the national championship match of the NCAA tournament with an 85 dominant–51 Victory over the UCLA n ° 1 in the second game of the Final Four Female.
The dynamic duo of the dynamic area of Sarah Strong and Azzi Fudd lit the Bruins, which were the global seeded of the tournament, combining to mark 41 of the 85 points of the Huskies.
The first year Recruit Strong led the charge with a summit of 22 points, engraving its name in history as the third first -year student UCONN to decrease 20 in a final match four.
With the victory, the Huskies have struck their ticket for the match for the first time since 2022. They will compete against South Carolina No. 1 on Sunday, aimed at a 12th record national championship in the history of the female program.
The opponent the last time that Uconn arrived in the match for the national title? South Carolina. The Gamecocks gave Geno Auriemma, the most winning coach of all time in the history of women’s basketball, his only defeat in a match for the national title in this confrontation.
Paige Bueckers, the Senior Huskies star, said that she did not put much stock in her team’s performance in Columbia earlier this year and what it means for Sunday.
“At this point, everything you have done before the season means nothing,” said Bueckers on the key to winning the gamecocks. “The record is 0-0, the teams are trying to go 1-0 in the last match.”
For the UCLA, Friday evening’s defeat ends the curtain in a revolutionary season. The best classified Bruins, making their very first appearance in the Final Four, did not find their rhythm despite a valiant effort of 26 points from the center outside the Lauren Betts competition. Founded by 19 reversals and a dark 4 out of 16 beyond the arc, the historic race of the UCLA ends with sorrow.
Bueckers said that keeping Betts in check was the key to their game planning.
“They obtained the best post player in the country, she attracts the attention so much, she is very physical that she arrives in her place, and they just did a great job about her,” said Bueckers on the way Uconn Frontcourt defended Betts.
“They worked extremely hard to train. You can’t beat her, but you can do your best to try to be like her, but they just did a wonderful job in the paint.”
