The Vegas Golden Knights discuss a business to acquire the rights of the free free agent of Mitch Marner of the Toronto Maple Leafs, according to sources of the League, which would allow them to sign the All-Star winger before he arrives on the free market on Tuesday.
If they withdraw a sign and an exchange with the Maple Leafs, the Golden Knights can obtain a secure marner to a contract of eight years in maximum length. If they are waiting on Tuesday, when the free agency opens, the longest term they could give it will be seven years.
Darren Dreger de TSN was the first to report the potential movement.
Marner is one of Toronto’s most accomplished players, sitting fifth on the list of all time with 741 points at 28 years old. He was drafted No. 4 by his hometown team in 2015 and became an immediate fans favorite because of his creativity and his elite play capacity.
However, Marner also aroused strong criticism for the inability of the team to overcome the bump in the playoffs and began to attack under this meticulous examination.
It has become clear that he could consider a free agency departure when he refused to engage in discussions on a contract extension with the Leafs throughout last season. He also refused to give up his non-Movement clause during the commercial deadline of March 7 for an agreement which would have sent him to the Hurricanes de la Caroline.
Earlier this week, the Director General of Leafs Brad Treliving Recognized by journalists This marner was going to test the market for free agents.
A trade in Vegas would be similar to that which the Hurricanes made during last year’s draft, when they sent Jake Guentzel’s rights to the Lightning of Tampa Bay for a choice of third round after omitting to have him signed a contract. GUENTZEL then signed a seven -year agreement with the lightning, bearing an AAV of $ 9 million.
