Manisha Bhanwala wins India’s first gold in four years; Antim Pang collects bronze – Firstpost

The experienced Indian wrestler Manisha Bhanwala won the first gold medal in India at the Asian championships since 2021 Edition with a clear 8-7 victory against Ok J Kim in Korea, while the Antimghal Pang has been satisfied with a bronze in Amman, in Jordan on Friday.

Manisha (62 kg) began with an easy victory of technical superiority over Tynys Dubek of Kazakhstan and pinned Hanbit Lee of Korea for another dominant victory. The semi-final was no different, because it conceded only one point to finally win 5-1 against Kalmira Bilimbek Kyzy.

In the confrontation of the title, Manisha looked up, dragging 2-7 but recorded six points in a row to win her first gold medal at the Asian championships.

She already had three podiums in the tournament, but they were all efforts of bronze medal.

In the 2021 edition on Almaty, Vinesh Phogat and Sarita Mor had won gold medals.

Panghal, 20, in competition in his first international event after a disappointing show at the Paris Olympic Games, beat Jin Zhang in China in the 53 kg quarter -final, but was not up to the Japanese Kiyooka Moe Kiyook, which won by technical superiority.

During the first three -minute period, Panghal, the first U20 world champion in India, scored any point but conceded one. During the second period, she tried hard but Kiyooka was too strong for her defense.

Panghal was put on the clock and within 30 seconds, the Japanese made two movements to take a 5-0 lead. Panghal then lost a point on passivity.

The Japanese were unstoppable when she killed Panghal, then returned it to finish the competition.

In bronze qualifiers, she dominated against Meng H Hsieh of Taipei, winning by technical superiority without conceding a point.

Neha Sharma (57 kg), Monika (65 kg) and Jyoti Beriwal (72 kg) could not reach the sleeves of the medal.

Indian wrestlers have now won a gold medal, money and six bronze medals, including two from Greeco Roman Wrestlers in the tournament.

The male freestyle competition will start on Saturday.
