Manhunt in progress after three bodies found – DW – 04/06/2025

Office of the Western Police of the German State of Rhineland-Palatine is looking for a suspect in the murder of three people in the Westerwald region early on Sunday morning.

The authorities confirmed Sunday evening that the victims were a 47 -year -old man, a 44 -year -old woman and a 16 -year -old man.

Their bodies were found in a house in the city of Weitefeld, located about 30 kilometers (nearly 19 miles) from the city of Siegen.

According to a police spokesman, manhunt has not succeeded so far.

The spokesman said that the hypothesis is that the context of the case is “based on the family”, the mayor of the city Karl-Heinz Keßler saying that the alleged victims and aggressor are long-standing residents of Weitefeld.

Did one of the victims contacted the police?

According to the police, an emergency call was made at 03:45 of a woman who reported a violent incident, the police did not exclude that one of the victims was the appellant.

Police also told the German public broadcaster SWR that there were clues that suggest that a firearm and a stab weapon had been used.

Research is currently focused on a male suspect who was seen leaving the premises as soon as the police arrive.

The police said on Sunday evening that tactical officers (similar to the American Swat teams) and a helicopter had been deployed in the excavation, which would continue all night.

The approximately 2,000 residents of Weitefeld, as well as other villages in the region, are encouraged by the police to stay at home and keep the windows closed as a precaution and to refrain from collecting random hitchhikers.

However, police said there was no “danger of concrete” for residents.
