A manhunt is underway in western Germany, after three bodies were found in a residential building in Weitefeld, in the Westerwald region.
The police advised residents of the surroundings to stay at home and warned people not to pick up hitchhikers, report from local media.
The German point of sale Bild reports that a police helicopter has been deployed and that vehicles entering and leaving the city are being verified.
Details on killed people were not published.
A police spokesman would have told Bild that the emergency call had arrived at 3:45 a.m. local time (2:45 a.m., BST).
Weitefeld is home to around 2,200 people.
