Manhattan traffic has moved more quickly since the launch of congestion prices, says MTA

According to data published by the agency, the worst bottlenecks of the circulation of Manhattan have already discovered some of the worst bottlenecks of the circulation of Manhattan.

The MTA previously pointed out that the new costs, launched on January 5, had led to 7% less vehicles in the toll zone in the south of the 60th street during the first days they were in force, compared to a similar period last year. The latest data from the agency show that the reduction has allowed the traffic to move more quickly in the city areas.

“Travel times have dropped from 10% to 30% on average, which means that these figures include days with unusual disturbances” on Wednesday, MTA deputy chief, Juliette Michaelson. “These are only transformative improvements.”

MTA data show that average weekly journeys in the Dutch tunnel fell 48% in the first three weeks of congestion prices compared to the same period last January. The journey times on the Williamsburg bridge dropped by 30% and 27% on the street notoriously blocked, according to data.

The analysis did not include changes in travel speeds on the George Washington bridge or the Cross-Bronx highway. The environmental assessment published by the MTA before the launch of the tolls expected that traffic in these areas is increasing slightly while the drivers were trying to bypass the pricing costs of congestion.

MTA president Janno Lieber said that traffic reduction has enabled some of the agency buses to move faster than their schedule. Lieber said he was planning to stimulate the bus service accordingly.

“We see on some of the North and South roads that buses are literally forced to stop and linger for a few minutes in certain places just to keep the calendar,” said Lieber. “So the main thing is that we re -examine the schedules to see if we can speed up these trips.”

Congestion toll money is required by state law to finance $ 15 billion upgrades in metros. Until now, the MTA has refused to share the amount of income it has brought in tolls, but officials have said that these figures would be made public at the end of February.
